Polarfoam PF-7300-0 Soya Foam Insulates Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, Canada

Waterloo, ONTARIO - February 9, 2011 - Polyurethane Foam Systems Inc.’s (PFSI) Polarfoam PF-7300-0 Soya foam was recently used to insulate the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. K-Seal, a division of Kappeler Masonry in Waterloo, Ontario, received the contract to install the spray foam insulation at the hospital.

The job commenced in 2010 with K-Seal working over the summer months and into the fall on the insulation portion of the project. This work took three months with one full rig on the job at all times utilizing three sprayers as well as additional rigs sometimes being brought to the job site. The highest point sprayed was 80 feet, requiring K-Seal to rent a 100’ boom to work on these parts of the building. It was estimated that 80 drum sets of Polarfoam Soya were used for this LEED certified project. In the United States and in many other countries around the world, LEED certification is a recognized standard for measuring building sustainability.

“It’s always good to see and record the building envelope evolving. We know that patients and staff working in this hospital environment are housed in one of the most advanced and modern structures of our time. Insulation with Polarfoam Soya will ensure that the heating of the building will be cost and energy efficient and will provide a controlled, comfortable working environment. Since this is a LEED certified project, we know that the builders have upheld the highest standards of environmentally friendly practices throughout the job. Polarfoam Soya insulation is a key component of the eco-friendly nature of this project and supports green building practices while creating healthy living and working spaces. K-Seal is proud of this accomplishment and PFSI is proud to be a business partner of choice of Kappeler Masonry and K-Seal.”

The general contractor for the project was Van Bots of Ontario and architectural work for the job was conducted by Vermeulin-Hind Architects. Kappeler Masonry was also contracted to do the masonry portion of the project.
