Spray Foam Magazine – Winter 2021 – Dan Dorneanu is a spray foam business owner, innovator, and inventor with ambitions to implement his designs to help the industry progress. Can one man really make a difference? Spray Foam Magazine chatted with Dorneanu to see what makes him tick and where he gets his creative streak from.

There is a drive and natural determination that some people possess and Dorneanu is such a person. Dorneanu states he has been a member of the SPFA since 2017 and has a genuine passion to improve the industry and envisions his contribution to make a stamp that will be recognized and noted in the industry. Thinking about his work Dorneanu said, “My dedication has been around making the work safer and easier for the men and women who work in the trenches, as I do, every day and my objective is to help to improve the quality of the applications.”

Dorneanu’s past training and experience in the technology fields has allowed him to invent and promote increased reliance on technology to achieve the goals of making the work safer and easier. He has designed mobile applications that allow monitoring of a spray rig, to scanners which allow the contractor to read the depth of the foam without touching it, and is the author of two U.S. Patents on the technologies. Dorneanu said, “People who I have worked with will tell you, what I do in the areas of technology is selfless work which does not yield a profit much of the time, however it does drive our industry in a safer, higher quality and more promising direction.”

Being able to view our industry from all directions is a special skill that Dorneanu possesses. Therefore he was in the ideal position to create the first PFMEA for spray foam application, an SPFA equipment committee initiative, which is helping to guide projects and directions based on quantifiable data for safety, quality, and delivery metrics. A spray foam business owner with the extra drive that is needed to push the industry into a new realm. The most important work says Dorneanu is, “The work out in the field, almost every day, spraying crawlspaces and attics which is where it all comes together. I can see and feel what each of our hardworking installers experience on a jobsite. This unique perspective allows me to help our industry in ways where it really matters.”

When Dorneanu started in the industry he thought it was the toughest job anyone could do. Dorneanu contemplates, “After just a couple of jobs I said to myself that there has to be a better way, so I started innovating and improving. With each innovation and improvement, I was determined that before I retire, I will contribute to the spray foam industry all that I can, if nothing else than for the men and women who go into that hot attic or that tight crawlspace every day. That their life will be a little safer, more profitable and a little easier than it was before.”
