Spray Foam Job Completed on Ranch to Coincide With Calving Season

ASHLAND, KS - April 3, 2012 - Kansas-based CRC Insulation has completed its share of agricultural SPF projects over the years. Most recently, the spray foam contractor insulated a brand-new barn that, among many uses, will primarily function as a shelter for calving heifers (the process of first-time mothers giving birth to baby cows). 

“The main purpose of this new barn is to bring the heifers in out of the harsh weather during calving season,” Cody Hickman, owner of CRC Insulation, explained. The calving season occurs in springtime, so the application was completed just in time last month. 

The new barn was built on Snake Creek Ranch, which lies just southeast of Ashland, Kansas, not far from the Oklahoma border. Hickman has known the proprietors of Snake Creek Ranch for years, he said, and has completed spray foam applications for them in the past. 

Hickman estimated that the barn covered about 30,000 square feet. It was tall as well, with a peak reaching about 45 feet. CRC applied two inches of closed-cell spray foam to the entire inside surface of the barn. There was a small office built into one corner of the barn as well, and Hickman’s team applied three inches to it. 

“We did a complete envelope on the building,” said Hickman. “This barn will also be used to house horses year-round. It will provide a comfortable place for livestock, both winter and summer.”
