New Handi-Foam Fireblock West for Low Humidity, High Temperature Climates
NORTON, OH–May 1, 2013–In an effort to continuously provide solutions to contractors' needs, Fomo Products, Inc. announces the release of Handi-Foam® Fireblock West designed for low-humidity, high-temperature climates.
Handi-Foam Fireblock West is a fireblock sealant designed to block the passage of flame and smoke in concealed penetrations from room to room and floor to floor in residential construction. Due to its special formulation, Handi-Foam Fireblock West is designed to effectively seal, fill, bond and stop air infiltration in even hottest and driest climates of the Western United States.
"One component foam cures using the moisture in the air, which can provide challenges in particularly hot areas with low humidity," said Sara Jonas, Vice President of Marketing, Fomo Products. "Fireblock West is specially formulated to perform in these extreme hot and dry climates year round."
Fireblocking is required by the International Building Code for Type V residential construction. Handi-Foam Fireblock is more effective than traditional fireblock materials at blocking flames and smoke, and has been evaluated per UL ER13919-01. Handi-Foam Fireblock has an easily recognizable orange color, allowing inspectors to quickly identify the use of an approved fireblock product.
In addition to its superior sealing and smoke- and flame-blocking ability, Handi-Foam Fireblock West has proved to be more cost-effective then competitive materials due to ease of application and excellent yield rates compared to standard fiberglass and caulks. One 24 oz. can of Handi-Foam Fireblock West may replace up to 30 standard tubes of caulk.
Handi-Foam Fireblock West is available in a 24 oz. size, with both straw and gun foam dispensing units.
When cured, Handi-Foam Fireblock West creates a barrier against draft, noise, moisture and air infiltration, is tack-free within 10 minutes, and meets ASTM E84 Class 1 for caulk and sealants. It is not to be used as a firestop in commercial construction. Handi-Foam Fireblock West is compliant with AAMA document 812-04 for low-pressure build, meaning it will not bow or distort windows.
