Huntsman’s Auburn Hills Facility Receives OSHA'S CET Platinum Award

AUBURN HILLS, MI - April 23, 2012 - Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) was presented the CET Platinum Award by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) for its Auburn Hills facility’s outstanding safety and health record. The site has gone more than 15 years without a lost-time accident.

“We are extremely proud of this award, which reflects our commitment to achieving excellence in environmental, health and safety protection,” said Greg Pelts, Auburn Hills Commercial Director/Site Manager. “Operating for 15 years without a lost-time accident is no easy feat, and we credit our outstanding employees for their diligence in maintaining a clean, safe and efficient facility.”

Part of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), the MIOSHA program’s Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division established the CET Awards to recognize the health and safety achievements of employers and employees across the state. The CET Platinum Award recognizes an exceptional safety record of five or more years without lost-time accidents.

With approximately 75 employees and contractors, the Auburn Hills Technical Center is located on a 12-acre site with 95,000 square feet of office, laboratory, pilot plant, warehouse and machine hall facilities for the Americas Polyurethanes businesses.

In addition to operating for more than 15 years without a lost-time accident, Huntsman successfully completed the following criteria to receive the CET Platinum Award:

  • Developed and implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system
  • Established a safety and health committee, with both employee and management participation
  • Developed an employee training system, with an emphasis on how to work in a safe and healthy  manner
  • Worked diligently to change workplace culture to reflect the importance of worker safety

The Auburn Hills facility’s emphasis on environment, health and safety (EHS) is reflected in a strong history of workplace awards and recognition. In 2004, the site received the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP) Star Award for workplace safety and health excellence, with renewal of the award in 2007 and 2011. The Star Award is the most prestigious safety and health award given in the state. Since 1999, Michigan has recognized just 29 MVPP Star companies.
