Coatings and Foam Solutions Powers SPF Center

HUDSON FALLS, NY – August 19, 2013 – A recurring problem in the SPF industry is that some new entrants and employees, as a means to save time, try to bypass the learning process of properly installing SPF and operating the equipment that produces it. Not possessing the proper knowledge about SPF can lead to expensive problems for contractors. The New York-located SPF Center's focuses on setting the standard by efficiently training people who are either getting in to the SPF trade or want to expand on their basic understanding of it.

The SPF Center is a state-of-the-art educational and training facility that is operated by Coating & Foam Solutions, LLC, an SPF supplier company based in Hartland, Wisconsin. The facility's training program is dedicated to the expansion of the industry and continuing education of those involved in all aspects of spray polyurethane foam insulation, roofing, and roof coatings.

"We want to offer further education so people can use our products and SPF products with constant success," said CFS' Frank Nestle, who manages most of the training. "Better projects improve efficiency and make our customer firms stronger. A little education goes a long way."

The facility houses training sessions on a quarterly basis for a class of up to 15 people. According to Nestle, the training can vary from two to four days, as it covers hands-on training for applications, products, and spray equipment.

Aside from Nestle, the educational and training programs are conducted by CFS' in-house personnel and industry experts. The SPF Center offers a comfortable classroom, with protected viewing of the spray area, where attendees participate in a safe and convenient learning environment. During the training sessions, SPF is applied to wall and roof mock-ups, so as to simulate actual installations of SPF. Application aspects ranging from spray technique, substrate conditions, spray gun usage, and the basic do's and don't's of proper product installation are covered.

"A strong message of safe application is stressed," said Nestle. "We may also provide some level of the SPFA Professional Certification Program and, with enough training hours, we can assist the applicator through the certification process."

The SPF Center's program is structured on different one-or-two-day courses: SPF Applicator Training, Specifier and Owner Overview of SPF and Coatings, and Recoating and Renewal of Roofs.

The SPF Applicator Training is a two-day course that covers the basic background of the industry and SPF application, and includes information on spray equipment, CFS products, insulation, inspections, specifications, construction details, and quality control. Participants have the opportunity to operate the equipment and perform an SPF application.

The Specifier and Owner Overview of SPF and Coatings is a one-day course that is designed to expose roofing specifiers, job site inspectors, and building owners to the benefits and proper use of SPF insulation and roofing.

The Recoating and Renewal of Roofs course is also a one-day course. It consists of an overview of what roof coatings and roof restoring can offer, as well as what their limitations are.

"Sustainable coating systems are becoming increasingly popular," said Nestle. "We go through different coatings used on spray foam, metal, modified bitumen, and more. Participants gain a better understanding of a proper coating application, a thorough investigation of existing conditions, and guidelines for the selection and installation of coatings, and long-term performance of these systems."

Nestle believes that being educated in SPF application and equipment is absolutely essential for good business.

"Being educated allows us to survive and grown in the SPF industry," said Nestle. "It enables contractors to make fewer mistakes and to be more efficient, more profitable, and to be able to move on to the next job quicker, which equates to happy customers, and happy customers means more referrals, and referrals mean more work.
