                            Estimating pitched roofs
Do any of you contractors have any formulas on determining total sq ft for various pitched roofs??? |
| Tim O'Keefe Posted: Jan 29, 2008 10:18 PM | When possible, I measure the length of the room. Then to determine the length of the rafter I count the sheets of plywood. 1 sheet is 4 feet. If it is 5.5 sheets from the eave to the ridge that is 22 feet. Simple and effective. Tim Granite State Spray Foam Co. |
| Edward Brassington Posted: Jan 30, 2008 12:08 AM | If you know the pitch of the roof use the following chart Pitch Multiply Flat Area By 3/12x1.031 4/12x1.054 5/12x1.083 6/12x1.118 7/12 x.158 8/12x1.202 9/12x1.250 10/12x1.302 11/12x1.357 12/12x1.413 I hope this helps |
| Darren Gomez Posted: Mar 12, 2008 02:35 AM | I use this online calculator. It's found at: http://www.inspectusa.com/info/calc/roof-flatwork/roofcalc.htm You'll need the length width and height from the rafters to the highest point of the pitch. |

| Circle-D Posted: Jun 11, 2009 12:40 PM | Ed does this chart work on hip roofs also, Thanks |
| SPFer Posted: Jun 14, 2009 08:15 AM | Hip roofs are easy, length of room X length of rafter X 2. You don't need to worry about the triangles. |
| Corey Degetaire Posted: Jun 27, 2009 08:06 PM | I use a digital laser range finder, to get measurements in hard to reach areas (attics) It is a great tool and sure beats a tape measure. You can pick them up for about $150. |
