PMC to Host PDA Polyurea Training Event

PMC to Host PDA Polyurea Training Event

LAKEWOOD, NJ – May 14, 2015 – For the first time, Polyurethane Machinery Corp. (PMC) will host the industry-renowned Polyurea Development Association (PDA) Applicator Spray Course next month. The event, which will run from June 14-19, will take place at PMC’s facility in Lakewood, New Jersey. Throughout the course, 25 attendees will receive a complete overview on the requirements and best practices for polyurea applications. Rob Loomis, group leader of Willamette Valley Co. and former chairman of the PDA Education Committee affirmed that the course’s curriculum was designed to ensure a thorough instruction that goes beyond simple equipment training.

“Many industry companies have training programs that may or may not be sufficient for their employees’ needs,” said Loomis. “This class helps relieve that burden, ensuring that attendees receive a complete education in all areas of polyurea spray application.”

The six-day event will cover various topics that will be provided via educational and training sessions from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. During the first day, attendees will go through a Surface Preparation and Steel course, which will provide state-of-the art information and technology on the proper surface preparation for concrete and steel substrates prior to a polyurea applications.

The remainder of the event will be split between the Basic Applicator Course and the Advanced Applicator Spray Course, each spanning three days respectively. The Basic Applicator Course will consist of an overview identifying the elements involving the successful set-up and operation of polyurea spray equipment, as well as an in-depth analysis of commercially available equipment designs and necessary hardware components that ensure high-quality performance. Once the PDA Basic Applicator Course is completed, attendees will be able to move onto the next level of polyurea application training with the Advanced Applicator Course, which covers the ins and outs of equipment troubleshooting and other specifications. Ultimately, the PDA Spray Course is geared for all 25 attendees to leave PMC’s facility as polyurea experts.

John Becker, President of Creative Material Material Technologies, Ltd., previously participated in the PDA training course and noted that the topics covered went beyond any training class he’d ever attended.

“I’ve written training courses for my company so I had a unique perspective,” said Becker. “What works in the lab or was designed to, may not work in the field. PDA’s class bridges the gaps. The experience was invaluable. I would highly recommend it to a novice or an expert, not only for the level of experience of the instructors, but because the class brought together professionals from different parts of the industry, and that interaction was profitable for the overall learning experience.”

Aside from polyurea applications, the instructors will also discuss the topic of primers, as well as the proper installation of polyurea over spray polyurethane foam. Furthermore, spray foam contractors in attendance will benefit from the course by obtaining a greater understanding of what is required if they are looking to augment their business with polyurea in the future.

“The SPF contractor can certainly benefit from understanding the different heating and pressure requirements of polyurea applications and how they differ from SPF applications,” said PDA’s Meredith Carr. “We cover a wide range of spray guns used for the application of polyurea coatings that are also used when applying spray foam. An SPF contractor can also get a better understanding of polyurea by knowing that the surface prep is greater in depth than with most SPF-applied systems. This is all discussed in detail during the course.”

2015 will mark the 10th year since the creation of PDA’s Spray Training Course, which has impacted hundreds of attendees and generated awareness into making the polyurea field a safer industry to work in.
