NRCA Demonstrates Support for Employee Service in the National Guard and Reserve

NEW ORLEANS, LA – March 27, 2015 – Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense Office, announced that Mr. Richard Nugent, NRCA President, and members of the NRCA Board signed Statements of Support for the National Guard and Reserve at the 2015 NRCA Board of Directors Meeting. Mr. Tom Bullock, ESGR Chief of Employer Outreach, represented the Department of Defense at the signing ceremony.

NRCA joins with thousands of America’s employers in pledging:

  •   Fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
  •   Provide managers and supervisors the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  •   Appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.
  •   Continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.

In addition to signing on behalf of the NRCA Mr. Nugent has challenged all NRCA member companies to join with him in signing a Statement of Support to publicly honor their employees who voluntarily serve their communities and our nation in the National Guard and Reserve.

“This is the right thing to do and the right time to do it” said Bullock. “This is a significant event not only for the members of NRCA, but all employees of America’s roofing industry. I ask that all NRCA Members place a priority on hiring the men and women of our Reserve and National Guard”.

“NRCA is committed to providing to support to the brave men and women who serve our country,” says Rich Nugent, NRCA President. “The roofing industry offers great career opportunities, and I urge the NRCA members to honor our servicemen by providing them every chance available to advance in our great industry. We look forward to a long successful relationship between the Department of Defense and the NRCA.”

“Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units. I am encouraging all NRCA member firms to take a look at their current human resources policies and incorporate policies supportive of employee service in the Guard and Reserve, added Bullock. “Many roofing companies provide ‘Above and Beyond’ support with pay differential to offset the loss of wages, and extension of health care benefits, which complement coverage provided by the military, when their employees are mobilized.”
