Michigan Spray Foam Company Completes Project for Large Steel Manufacturer

DEARBORN, MI – November 7, 2011 – Stony Creek Services, a spray foam insulation contracting company based in Westland, Mich., recently completed a large project for a Michigan-based steel company.

“We were contacted by representatives from Severstal Steel with a request to insulate one of their warehouses for new annealing furnaces they were going to put in,” said Anton Cornellier, president of Stony Creek Services. “They asked us to check out the job to supply the number. We were also given a four-week job limit.”

In order to work at a pace that met the four-week deadline, Cornellier divided work for the project into two shifts: two crews worked during the day, while the other group worked at night.

Cornellier eventually moved all work to night shifts due to weather conditions inside the warehouse.

“Since we were working in the middle of the summer, temperatures would often reach 120 degrees in the warehouse,” Cornellier said. “The warehouse was a lot cooler at night, and the space at the ground floor was vacant. As a result, it made working in there a lot easier.”

The project, which was estimated to be 120,000 square feet of metal panel walls and concrete roof deck, required Cornellier and his crew to bring in 85-foot and 125-foot boom lifts, along with four crews, to work on the ceiling.

“The ceiling was about 85 feet high,” Cornellier said. “It was bit tricky trying to navigate that high in the air to install the foam.”

The Stony Creek Services crew applied one inch of NCFI 11-017 spray foam insulation and one inch of ure-k cellulose into the walls and ceiling.

After several weeks of working, Cornellier and his crew successfully completed the job, and estimated that about 32,000 pounds of foam, along with 1,300 bags of cellulose, were installed into the warehouse’s ceiling and wall.

With the success of the project, Cornellier stated that representatives from Severstal are in the works of contacting a 550,000 square-foot project for the future.

“We are very happy with the warehouse, and we look forward to working those guys again,” Cornellier concluded.
