Insulation Technologies to be Highlighted at National Convention
PTTISBURGH, PA - April 13, 2011 — Bayer MaterialScience LLC, a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, will showcase its broad portfolio of high-performance building materials, technologies and initiatives at the 2011 AIA National Convention, May 12-14, 2011, at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
For architects, engineers, contractors and owners, this broad range of solutions is a blueprint for designing and constructing buildings that are aesthetically pleasing, economically viable and environmentally friendly. In fact, design teams can rely on Bayer MaterialScience LLC to take an active role in achieving national and regional sustainability targets, such as those of LEED, ENERGY STAR, NAHB Green and other programs.
Below is a sneak peek at some of the complementary building solutions Bayer MaterialScience LLC will feature at booths 1717 and 2917.
Insulation Technologies
Efficient insulation is a key component in reducing energy consumption, and Bayer MaterialScience LLC offers several technologies for perimeter wall and roofing insulation (booth #1717). For example, energy-efficient EcoBay™ closed-cell (CC) spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation is formulated specifically for commercial building applications. Properly installed, EcoBay™ CC SPF insulation has an R-value of 6.9 per inch, provides a continuous air barrier and meets stringent ASHRAE 90.1 building standards. When sprayed at a minimum thickness of 1 inch, EcoBay™ CC SPF also serves as a Class II vapor retarder.
The company will also feature its High Performance Residential Program, which combines whole-house building science and SPF insulation. The Bayer MaterialScience LLC team works directly with builders to help them maximize the insulation properties of Bayseal® CC SPF and Bayseal® open cell (OC) SPF by focusing on an optimally sized HVAC system, interior moisture management, compliance with ASHRAE ventilation standard 62.2, and regionally specific thermal enclosure specifications.
High-performance Window, Glazing and Roofing Systems
Sheffield Plastics, part of the global Bayer MaterialScience organization, will showcase (booth #2917) high-performance window, glazing and roofing systems that utilize Makrolon® polycarbonate sheet products. Sheffield will highlight collaborations that demonstrate the versatility, strength, energy-efficiency, aesthetics and other advantages offered by Makrolon® polycarbonate sheet for architectural applications.
These collaborations include:
- Versatile window systems from Winco Windows. Developed for educational facilities, these window systems featuring Makrolon® 15 polycarbonate sheet are a translucent alternative to fiberglass-faced daylighting products.
- A blast-resistant system from Winco Windows that utilizes Makrolon HygardEX.
- Conservatek roofing systems. Makrolon® multi UV sheet creates lightweight roofing systems that can be used for overhead or vertical glazing systems in airports, museums and other commercial structures.
- Window systems designed for psychiatric facilities. Offered by Wausau Windows and Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope™, these systems utilize Makrolon® 15 polycarbonate sheet, which offers a 15-year warranty.
- Bullet Guard windows utilizing Makrolon® Hygard polycarbonate sheet. These security and bullet-resistant barriers are used for transaction windows, as well as complete facility projects.
EcoCommercial Building
Bayer MaterialScience LLC will also highlight the benefits of its EcoCommercial Building (ECB) initiative (booth #1717), which is focused on advancing the practical implementation of eco-friendly and economically viable commercial building design and construction solutions. From learning about material performance to integrated technologies, the ECB network of organizations helps streamline the search for sustainable options, enabling architects, engineers, contractors and other decision makers to save valuable time and money.
Members of the ECB network provide expertise in complementary building technologies, such as integrated design, building envelope, daylighting and illumination, indoor environmental quality, renewable energy and financial modeling. They include Acuity Brands, Bostik, Deloitte LLP, Eaton Corporation, Graham Architectural Products, IDC Architects, Kingspan and Bayer Technology Services. The ECB Network has also established alliances with organizations that execute building projects and study the next generation of sustainable design: PJ Dick Incorporated, Burns & Scalo Roofing, and the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics of Carnegie Mellon University.
Bayer MaterialScience advanced performance materials include waterborne, renewable content, and ultra low-to-zero volatile organic compound (VOCs) coatings and sealants, customized polyurethane spray foam and polyiso board insulation, as well as polycarbonate sheet from Sheffield Plastics.
In addition to their representation in the EcoCommercial Building booth, network members Bostik and Kingspan will each have its own exhibit at the 2011 AIA Convention (booths 536 and 927, respectively).
