Industry Veteran Richard S. Duncan Announces Impending Retirement

Stafford, VA – December 4, 2023 – The Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) has announced the impending retirement of Richard S. Duncan, PhD, PE from his full-time role as executive director. A well respected, longtime member of the polyurethanes and spray foam industries, Duncan will complete his term with the SPFA in April 2024 and will stay on in a consulting role as technical director. The SPFA is currently interviewing candidates to fill the position beginning in April 2024.

“Our organization and members have benefitted immensely from the commitment and leadership Rick Duncan provided daily as executive director these past few years,” says Bonnie Strickler, president of the SPFA. “Enhancements to our membership and offerings, as well as the growth and success of the annual SprayFoam Convention & Expo, have been notable and we are incredibly grateful for Rick’s role in that. We all want to congratulate him on his retirement and are thrilled that he has decided to remain with us as our technical director.”

Rick Duncan entered the role of SPFA executive director in September 2020, during the height of the pandemic. The SPFA Board of Directors credit him with his commitment, leadership and success in not only helping to usher the organization through that difficult time, but in ultimately bettering the SPFA in the process.

Duncan also previously held the role of SPFA technical director from August 2008 to September 2020. Additional notable industry roles he has held include senior marketing manager, spray foam insulation for Honeywell Specialty Materials (September 2006-August 2008) and global director of new product development for CertainTeed/Saint-Gobain Insulation (May 1996-September 2006).

“I’m happy with what the SPFA Board of Directors, committees and staff have been able to accomplish these past few years,” says Duncan. “I am comfortable passing the torch along, as well as being able to continue with the SPFA as technical director.”
