Ignition Barrier Coating Over Spray Foam Passes Test With Surprising Results
ELEMENDORF, TX - International Fireproof Technology Inc. (IFTI) recently announced that its spray applied coating, DC 315, passed over Lapolla's FL 500 .5 pound open cell foam at 400 square feet per gallon.
DC 315 was tested by AC 377 appendix X standards as an ignition barrier. Using a tip size of .517, the coating was applied at a thickness of only 4 mils wet or 3 mils dry. As a result, DC 315 is the most cost effective ignition barrier option on the market, according to IFTI.
“DC 315 hitting 400 square feet a gallon as an ignition barrier is just awesome," said Gary Wolf, IFTI executive vice president. "Not only is DC 315 a diverse coating, but it is the most economical, user friendly product on the market. It is the only coating that can be used as both ignition and thermal barrier over the majority of spray foam manufacturer’s products.”
DC 315 is a one-coat, water-based latex paint that offers fire protection over foam. The coating meets the VOC emission requirements for use in classroom and office environments as defined in the CA DHS Standard Practice.
Thus, the testing requirements are met to qualify the product as a low-emitting material in the Collaborative for High Performance Schools rating system. The product applies like regular latex paint using an airless sprayer, and being water-based, offers easy clean up.
DC 315 has now passed thermal and ignition barrier testing over 25 different types of spray foam insulation.
