IDC Architects joins Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s growing EcoCommercial Building Network
Pittsburgh, September 15, 2010 — IDC Architects (IDCA), an architectural and engineering design firm, is the latest company to join the expanding EcoCommercial Building (ECB) Network of Bayer MaterialScience LLC. IDCA offers a full range of services, including planning, architecture, engineering, construction management and facility services that complement the existing structure of Bayer’s ECB program.
With a number of completed LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) projects under its belt, IDCA is dedicated to ecological and sustainable practices at the leadership level. This vision is in tune with the holistic, sustainable building design that the ECB Network promotes.
“The addition of IDCA to our ECB Network leverages IDCA’s experience in specifying construction materials,” said Paul Platte, head, EcoCommercial Building Program, NAFTA, Bayer MaterialScience LLC. “Furthermore, the design background that IDCA provides will enhance the offerings and capabilities of the ECB Network.”
IDCA brings with it a wealth of consulting, program management, design and construction management services. A range of technical capabilities – including data center, cleanroom, high-tech industrial and R&D facility support, along with security planning, facility hardening and laboratory design – are also part of IDCA’s repertoire.
“IDCA is interested in participating in a network of like-minded professionals from all facets of the construction industry,” said Tim Meier, president, IDC Architects. He continued, “We look forward to being involved in this innovative, collaborative approach to sustainable building.”
Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s ECB NA program, launched April 26, 2010, advocates a holistic, collaborative approach to sustainable building design and construction. A number of network member organizations provide products aligned with seven building solution areas (Insulation; Daylighting; Illumination; Indoor Environmental Quality; Sustainable Energy; Intelligent Building; and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) that help to increase sustainability and reduce energy costs. The network features members who function independently to provide services for sustainable building projects, which may or may not involve Bayer MaterialScience products. In July 2010, Bayer MaterialScience LLC announced that Graham Architectural Products joined the ECB Network as an inaugural member.
To date, Bayer MaterialScience has four EcoCommercial Building showcase projects. The latest addition is the ECB Conference Center, officially unveiled May 26 at Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s Pittsburgh campus. The other facilities are an operational children’s day care center for employees of Bayer CropScience in Germany, an operational Bayer administration building in Belgium, and an office building under construction in India.
