DC360 Fireproof Paint Frequently Asked Questions
Can DC360 be used as an alternative ignition or thermal barrier over SPF?
DC360 fireproof paint is a water-based intumescent coating used to increase fire resistance ratings and reduce the flammability and smoke development of construction materials like OSB/Plywood, gypsum, and lumber not intended for use over SPF.
If I need to achieve a 1-hour rating can I install DC360 thicker to meet the rating?
DC360 has been tested in accordance with ASTME119 and CAN/ULC S-101 for 1 hr fire resistance in the certain wall or floor assemblies. Please refer to the DC360 listing matrix or contact IFTI to discuss further.
Can I apply DC360 all year long?
DC360 is an interior water-based acrylic and will freeze at temperatures below 0°C or 32 °F. The recommended installation temperature of a minimum of 10°C or 50° F must be maintained for the duration of installation and curing. It is also important to monitor humidity and do not install DC360 when humidity is over 85% or temperature is within 3°C of the dew point
What type/size of sprayer?
3000 psi and 1 gallon per minute with a 515 -527 tip size. (Graco 795 and higher). Removal of screens from machines and guns is required.
Can I use a topcoat?
interior water-based vinyl/acrylic such as Sherwin Williams A-100, Promar 400, 200, or drywall paint products are suitable to apply over DC360.
In these cases, the use of a topcoat offers a much higher architectural finish and the testing we have completed verifies that the topcoat will not negatively impact the performance of the coating.
Suitability of the topcoat for a specific end-use application should be verified with the topcoat manufacturer prior to installation.
Can DC360 be tinted?
DC360 fireproof paint can be tinted with up to 1 oz per gallon of standard tints
What Mil Thickness do I need?
Always refer to the DC360 listing matrix to ensure proper mil thickness and coverage rate for the specific type of rating needed to be achieved. Contact IFTI to discuss further.
