Customer Input Drives Bayer MaterialScience LLC Roofing Sector Realignment
SPRING, TX - December 5, 2011 - Bayer MaterialScience LLC spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roofing customers will now benefit from a streamlined product offering and enhanced resources. The changes come as Bayer continues to embrace Whole Building Science as an effective approach for sustainable and high performance residential and commercial facilities.
Recent developments in Bayer’s Spray Insulation and Roofing Materials division have centered on the integration of design, building systems, and products to optimize building performance and yield improved energy efficiency. Changes within the roof sector also come as a result of customer feedback and questions fielded by Bayer’s technical staff. Changes include:
- Product formulation advances – Technical development initiatives have resulted in enhanced processability and performance. Roofing products are available in summer, fall and winter grades at 2.5, 2.7 and 3.0 lb. densities, respectively.
- Roof coatings product line – The reduced complexity of the roof coating product portfolio improves supply chain efficiency and customer service.
- New roofing architectural binder now available – This binder is a single-source reference for all specification needs, code applicability, life safety requirements and drawing details.
- Expanded website – New tools such as LEED qualification, roofing details, and product certifications are available under the Commercial Roof tab at www.spf.bayermaterialscience.com.
- New AIA CEU Presentation – At the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) show in Dallas Jan. 30 – Feb. 2, Bayer will debut an informative new roofing presentation focusing on the roof as an integrated component of the total building envelope. The presentation can be viewed in Booth 601.
Changes to the Bayer roofing products team include:
- Dan Varvais, assigned as business development manager for the western region, now focusing on the complete building envelope.
- Dennis Meissner, assigned as a full-time technical service representative to support roofing contractors nationally.
- Bob Creighton, assigned as roofing warranty manager.

“As we continue to work more closely with SPF contractors, residential builders, and commercial architects, we’ve seen an increased focus on the concept of Whole Building Design,” said Renee Zierden, general manager, Bayer MaterialScience LLC Spray Insulation and Roofing Materials. “The changes we are instituting internally will allow us to respond to the market accordingly and serve our customers more efficiently. It is also the opportune time to engage in more direct education with the design and construction industry about Whole Building Design and how our roof and wall products meet this need.”
