Brothers Bring Industry Experience to Florida-based Spray Foam Supply Company

BOYNTON BEACH, FL – March 14, 2013 – While running his own spray foam contracting business, Darrell North learned first-hand how difficult it can be to find certain spray foam parts and accessories at reasonable prices in any given place. It sometimes means purchasing an entire package instead of independent parts, or contacting several different companies for different accessories. For a new contractor starting out in the business, the experience can be even more daunting. It was through North’s experience in the industry that SprayFoamGear.com was born.

Darrell started the website in South Florida in 2009, to offer fellow contractors a more user-friendly outlet to accommodate their spray foam needs. Darrell’s brother, Phil, was a salesman for their spray foam contracting company and took over as owner of the website in 2012. Phil reflected on his brother’s personal experiences as an applicator and how he came to create the website after struggling to find spray foam gear.

“He was going through a lot of disposable products like gloves, coveralls, and masks – all the maintenance supplies the crew needs on a daily basis,” Phil said. “We found there was no one-stop shop. You’d have to go to one place for the coveralls and another for drill bits and buy expensive O-rings directly from the manufacturers.”

As a salesman at the contracting company, Phil took calls from potential customers asking for spray foam estimates. The knowledge he gained while in the position would ultimately provide him with valuable insight in the industry, allowing him to better service Spray Foam Gear’s customers.

“It was fun selling spray foam because all these wonderful benefits you’re telling the customers about, they’re all true,” said Phil. “It really was a joy selling the product.”

Upon taking over SprayFoamGear.com’s operation, Phil soon learned that although the company is based in Florida, much of its customer base stems from elsewhere in the country.

“Many of our customers are from the Midwest,” he added. “We’ve also had customers from the Northeast, from Texas, and from Oklahoma.”

Although SprayFoamGear.com does not currently ship products worldwide, Phil is looking into the option because the company has had inquiries from Australia, Canada, and Romania. He believes that the growing demand for his products is a testament to the evolution of the spray foam industry.

“There’s a lot more information available nowadays,” he said. “A lot more people know about spray foam. It used to be among contractors and insulation companies, but a lot more people are incorporating it into their home design.”

In keeping with his brother’s vision, Phil has made sure the website remains easy to navigate. When a customer visits a specific category such as drill bits, they can click on a sub selection category, which references, for example, different O-rings provided for a particular type of spray gun. According to Phil, this makes it easier for the user, particularly a new user, to find what they need quickly rather than having to waste time.

“If you’re new at it, you might have to call the manufacturer, wait for a call back, spend all that time trying to figure out what exactly you need," he said. "Our website is a real time-saver and you will find everything you need to keep your crew running on a daily basis.”

Phil also added that the process of finding gear can be even more confusing if a customer is unsure of exactly what product they need, as there can be several different components and they could wind up buying an entire package or product, when all they may need is one part.

“When you pull the trigger, guns get worn out but you don’t need to replace all the O-rings in a gun when just a few are going bad,” he explained. “We sell individual seals or individual parts for the trigger piston and so forth.”

Some of SprayFoamGear.com’s bestselling products include coveralls and spray gun covers, and the company plans to add new products to the website in the near future. Before adding new products to its growing inventory, Phil said he often provides customers with free samples to gain feedback. He gave out sample facemasks to customers at the recent SPFA conference, for example, and is awaiting their review.

As Phil continues to keep a finger on the pulse of the spray foam industry, and draw from his industry experience, SprayFoamGear.com customers will benefit from the efforts he’s taken to help make their jobs a little bit easier.
