BASF Hosts Press Events During Greenbuild 2009

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, November 2009 — BASF, the Chemical Company, will host three press events, the Second Annual Round Table on Sustainable Construction and on-going micro seminars on the chemistry behind durable and energy-efficient construction during Greenbuild 2009 at the Phoenix Convention Center, Phoenix, Arizona, from Nov. 11-12. Wall Panel that Acts Like an Air Conditioner

When: Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 9:15 a.m.
Who: BASF and National Gypsum
What: National Gypsum and BASF introduce the first domestically produced wall panel with phase-change material that moderates indoor temperature fluctuations and helps maintain a comfortable interior environment.

Following the official announcement, there will be a 15-minute BASF micro-seminar about the science behind BASF Micronal® microencapsulated wax beads and why they turn an ordinary wall panel into an energy-saving building material.

Eco-Efficiency Analysis of Wall Claddings Revealed

When: Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.

What: The results of a detailed 2009 Eco-Efficiency Analysis to determine the environmental burden and life cycle costs associated with the construction, use and disposal of commercial exterior wall claddings in the United States will be distilled in a 15-minute overview.

Author Leanne Tobias Presents Top Findings

Who: Leanne Tobias, Managing Principal, Malachite, LLC
What: Leanne Tobias, author of the Urban Land Institute 2009 report titled, "Retrofitting Offices to Be Green and Energy Efficient", presents the study's top findings, including:

  •  The compelling business case for green and energy-efficient retrofits;
  •  Specific decision points and technologies from planning to investing to operations;
  •  A review of international retrofit best practices including corporate, headquarters, multi-tenant buildings, and leased spaces; and
  •  Innovative trends and practices from around the world, including certification programs and a discussion of public policy as it relates to green and energy-efficient office retrofits.

BASF's Second Annual Round Table on Sustainable Construction: Topic: Green Rating Systems/Product Labeling
Where: Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, Phoenix E (across from the convention center)
When: Thursday, Nov. 12, from 12-1:30 p.m.
Who: Approximately 60 design professionals and BASF representatives
What: Participants will convene a 90-minute round table discussion focused on green rating systems and green product labeling programs to ascertain challenges, best-practices and future goals and needs.

During the past several weeks, BASF has conducted online surveys on this topic and has received more than 200 responses. The results of the survey will be shared with the forum attendees as an introduction to the round table discussions. Following Greenbuild, the qualitative findings captured from the forum will be integrated into a final research report and available to the press in late November.
