The EPDM roof on the Surgery Center at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, LA was approaching 15 years old when they asked Louisiana Roofing Contractors for ideas to preserve the roof before it got to a point where it had to be completely replaced. Tearing the roof off a surgery center building is simply not practical due to the potential disturbance or stopping of work inside the building. Louisiana Roofing Contractors handles most of Willis Knighton’s roof maintenance issues and they know that LRC can handle projects from complete tear-off, but can also handle more sensitive maintenance issues like the Surgery Center.

LRC offered the hospital American WeatherStar’s Acrylic Maintenance System for their EPDM roof. Many roofs like this require either our Silicone or Urethane system due to the fact they may pond water for several days after rain. This roof was designed well and drains properly so an Acrylic System will work very well.

LRC cleaned the roof thoroughly using the AWS Etching Cleaner 920 which is designed to not only clean the surface, but to etch the rubber to ensure the acrylic system will adhere well to the substrate. This roof was not having any serious leak issues so LRC only had to go through minor troubleshooting to make sure no issues were in the immediate future. They finished the project by applying two coats of the AWS Acrylic 211 at a coverage rate of 1.5 gallons per 100 square foot per coat. The system will give Willis Knighton at least ten more years, and at that point they can recoat the roof with the same system.
